Overcoming language barriers during your travels

Many more people are exploring countries that speak little of the English language. Language can become a massive barrier during your travels but can sometimes be avoided if you plan ahead.

It is nice to hope that most people know enough about the English language for you to get by with everyday questions, however, this is not always the case. The best way to overcome this hurdle is by using a language card, this can be found in a small pocket size book. The book has simple pictures and small words that you can point at to try and get someone to understand your needs.

Another alternative to a handheld book is to add a language translator on your smartphone, this can allow you to input your question in English and it will translate it to the language you choose. This is a great option, however in some countries reading isn’t always learnt, so they won’t be able to read the translation.
